Oakland County Father Custody
Looking for information about Oakland County Father Custody?
Michigan is one of the best states for men to win custody of their children in divorce and even cohabitation cases. In Oakland County, father custody is becoming as common as mother custody. This may make you confident that you can win your custody case without too much stress, but don't be overconfident; every child custody case is different, and it's critical that you handle yours well if you want custody of those most important people in your life: your kids.
Start by being prepared, completely prepared. Make lists of the things you know about your ex that make her a bad parent, or even an immoral parent; do not use these yourself, but instead give them to your attorney. He will be able to build these into your Oakland County father custody case, and you won't look like the bad guy for bringing them up.
Make another list of the things that make you a good parent - and a third list of the things that she will say make you a bad parent. Go over these with your attorney as well so he will know what to anticipate. More importantly, however, use that third list of bad things about you as a model for change. With each item, ask yourself: what's more important, this behavior or having custody of my kids? Each item that falls short of the kids is an item you need to change in yourself, not just for the current case but permanently.
Why permanently? Because child custody is more than just a single court case. You are changing your life. If she sees it as a negative behavior, there's a good chance that it is, even if you don't want to think so. If that's not enough of an argument, think about this: your initial child custody case may only be the first one in a series of challenges. If you do not commit to change right now, you will find yourself under increasing strain in the future, and eventually you will slip. If only one thing she says about you is proven true, it puts your entire case in doubt.
That means with your negative behaviors, you must commit to change early, or decide that you will not change them and be honest about it. Truth is your friend in the courtroom.
Remember, too, that she will be going through the same things - but with an (unfair) advantage, as she is the mother. If your children are very young, you will need to prove both that you are a good parent and that she is a bad one; courts are very reluctant to separate young children from a mother. Keep this in mind as you go through your case.
In court, always, always look and act confident. Half of people's impression of you comes from how you want them to perceive you, and how you project that. Even though judges have seen this act come through a thousand times, your quiet confidence and demonstrated ability to work through this time of adversity will always work in your favor.
Remember, everything you are doing is for the sake of your kids. Winning child custody cases is hard, even in Oakland County; father custody cases enter the fray with significant strikes against them. But with care and attention, you can win that child custody case and raise your children yourself.
